Lucky has confirmed a new black-and-white name on the scene: Yingzhe 100. The second part of the story, a Yingzhe 400, is still waiting for better confirmation.
Lucky showed Yingzhe 100 at the Shanghai photography exhibition in July. Its August announcement names the 100-speed film, but says nothing about a 400 version, film formats, exposure count or processing data. So far there is no public manufacturer datasheet to pore over.
The 400-speed claim came into wider view through screenshots from Chinese online shops, shared on Reddit and reported by Kosmo Foto in September. The listings are a useful lead, but they do not carry the same weight as a product announcement from Lucky. The claim that this is a completely new emulsion also came from a Reddit poster, not from the manufacturer.
Chinese listings and a later report from Film Stock Hub point to a 35mm, 36-exposure, ISO 100 roll, with a shop price around 32 yuan. Those details may be right, but they have not been backed by a Lucky specification sheet. The 400-speed film has even less to go on: Film Stock Hub found no matching official announcement or Chinese product listing when it checked in September.
That leaves us with an interesting bit of film news and a familiar wait. Lucky has confirmed Yingzhe 100 exists. We still need the maker’s technical information, dependable sample negatives and a clear word on whether Yingzhe 400 is a real companion film. One much-discussed online sample has also been questioned as possibly AI-generated, so it is not much use for judging grain, contrast or tonality.
If Yingzhe 100 turns up at a local shop, I can see the appeal of trying a roll. A new black-and-white stock is always worth a look, especially from a maker with Lucky’s history. But for now I’d treat the reported specs as provisional, shoot a single roll before stocking up, and wait for proper negatives before drawing conclusions about its look. Keep an eye on the maker’s site and the film forums; this one may develop further.
