Florin Kiritescu has released a free public beta of Film Roll, an unofficial Magic Lantern-based add-on for the original Canon EOS 6D.
It offers 15 film-inspired looks and virtual rolls of 12, 24 or 36 exposures. Processing applies to large JPEGs, leaving RAW files unchanged. When a roll finishes, shooting pauses until another is loaded.
Compatibility is narrow: it requires Canon firmware 1.1.6, and the developer says some cameras will refuse the necessary downgrade. Processing takes about ten seconds per photograph.
These are digital interpretations of film stocks; their accuracy has not been independently established. The developer reports limited testing and warns of possible errors, corrupted images and freezes. Neither Canon nor the Magic Lantern team supports the project.
